Natural Product Biosynthesis

 We develop methods to elucidate the biosynthesis of natural products in plants and insects. These tools help us to understand the fundamental chemical, biological and evolutionary processes that give rise to these complex molecules. Since many of these natural products have pharmaceutical or biotechnological value, we are developing biological platforms that enable the inexpensive and rapid production of these substances.

Post-doc, PhD student and project student applicants with a strong interest in natural products and a background in biology, chemistry or engineering are encouraged to apply. Email a cover letter and CV to oconnor@ice.mpg.de
